Modular frame innovation facilitates installation and transportation.

Monday, April 26th, 2021

In many instances in the past, Structural Science have been asked to supply bespoke oversize frames for larger, multi-cover openings.

Our B125 class composite covers, including our BM6045, BM6060 and BM8080 options, can be neatly slotted side by side in these frames to cover a wide variety of clear openings.

What colour do you require?

Wednesday, October 25th, 2017
SSC have supplied various different colours of composite covers to food factories.

Why? Because they identify risk areas when they are cleaning the factories.

Also they supply watertight seals to stops and liquids or detergents entering the chambers below.

Using coloured manhole covers clearly helps and aids personnel in conducting inspections.

Further noise and anti-slip reduction with new gasket.

Durable manhole covers, Anti slip manhole coversWe have recently introduced a water resistant gasket for our square D400 – DS6 600 x 600mm clear opening composite cover and frame.

In addition, we have also refined its anti-slip tread pattern and reduced the angle of entry for a tyre to reduce any impact noise as the tyre hits the cover when in road.

SSC’s covers are fitted into locations where noise and anti-slip requirements are the highest, such as traffic light areas, roundabouts and cycle lanes. They have even been fitted on the London Marathon route.

Cover spotting in London

Monday, October 23rd, 2017
When you are in London why don’t you try and identify SSC covers close to iconic buildings or locations?

SSC have covers by Big Ben, at the BBC headquarters and outside number 10 Downing Street.

Thrubeam composite, lightweight, non-slip manholes are now visible in a wide range of British cities and around the world.

So if you happen upon one we’d be delighted if you’d send us a quick picture and we’ll try and publish the best.

No slip ups at London Marathon.

Thursday, October 19th, 2017
marathon runnersSSC has supplied covers on the London Marathon route.

Why? – because SSC covers have an embedded aggregate in the surface it make them anti-slip even when the covers are wet.

This was the reason that a number of London Boroughs chose to fit SSC covers, to reduce the risk of runners having a mishap while completing the gruelling 26 mile race.

Are you responsible for areas with significant pedestrian traffic where slips and trips could be a real problem? Or perhaps you are responsible for one of the many sports events held around the country on public roads every week.

Meet up at APEA 2017

Tuesday, October 10th, 2017
Apea 2017SSC Ltd are once again exhibiting at the APEA 2017 show in Milton Keynes on November 23rd..

This is the third year in a row that we have displayed their lightweight composite forecourt covers.

It is a great place to see everyone in the Petrol Forecourt industry again and for us to meet potential new users and demonstrate our expertise in this market. Come along and discuss the range of petrol forecourt covers and see our new designs.

See us on Stand A23.

DS6 flood cover performance enhanced.

Monday, October 9th, 2017
We are continually developing new covers and improving the performance of their range.

Recently we have concluded further trials with their new DS6 flood cover.

Working with a specialist company, Point Engineering based in Hull, who test marine doors for ships, a specific test rig was designed which would replicate a flood surge. We have designed a unique system, attached to the composite frame, which allows the cover to move within the frame. This allows the release of pressure and water but maintains the cover within the confines of the frame.

SSC’s D400 DS6 – 600 x 600mm clear opening composite cover and frame was tested in increments of 0.5 Bar and actually was tested without failure up to 2.20 Bar. See the slomotion video below.

How do we do that?

Thursday, February 16th, 2017
You have probably seen the recent programmes on TV showing how something is manufactured or constructed, at Structural Science we have done the same.

Take some time, only 2 minutes –  to look at our informative video of how to make a composite, anti-slip, lightweight cover.

These covers are used in pavements, petrol forecourts, factories and utility companies.

They can be made in different colours, can be made watertight, have locks fitted and look great when they are fitted.

New design engineers join the team.

Monday, August 1st, 2016
SSC has have had some change in their design department. We are delighted to announce that two new engineers have joined our team, Adam West and Om Rai who are post graduates.

Adam West is a Northumbria University Graduate, with a 2:1 in Mechanical engineering BEng (Hons).

His final year project was to develop a means test the mechanical properties of Epoxy-Graphene Nanocomposites and the effects of weight ratio within the composition. His final year option was “Digital Design and Analysis” using FEA analysis to develop a new or existing product. He has been involved in manufacturing projects, including a fully functioning Stirling engine, developing an optimised heat sink unit, rolling mill for precious metals and a Pipe heat exchanger.

Om Rai studied Mechanical Engineering at University of Greenwich where he achieved BEng (Hons) in May 2014 with Upper 2.1 and obtained PgDip in Advance Manufacturing Systems in June 2015 from Brunel University.

SSC to satisfy demand for electrical link box covers.

Tuesday, July 26th, 2016
coming soonSSC will be launching a new B125 300 x 300mm in the coming months to satisfy demand for Electrical link box covers.

This cover has been specifically designed to fit into the SSC range of pedestrian covers rated to a loading of 12.5 ton.

It also maintains the anti-slip surface wet or dry using the moulded in aggregate which is very hard wearing.

The new cover will include SSC’s self-locating locking device to ensure covers cannot be left unlocked.
