Radio transmission tests demonstrate added performance.

Tuesday, September 8th, 2015

r f friendlyWe are currently trialling a version of one of our covers to demonstrate the added performance of radio wave transmission through the composite material in a live environment.

Traditionally companies use above ground antennae to avoid the disturbance of the radio waves that is caused by metal or metal and concrete covers. This results in higher costs for installation, rather than fitting a unit underground or within a cover.

Structural Science Composites are developing smart covers that will allow the monitoring of assets underground and transfer of data to vehicles passing over covers, which can then be fed back to a central location and information analysed. This will ultimately improve the management of assets and what is happening below ground, without the need for costly additional equipment placed outside of a chamber.

This is already generating considerable interest and the trials are confirming the very real benefits with this type of cover.

Australia success in covers….not cricket!

Tuesday, September 1st, 2015

England may have won the Ashes, but Australia are benefitting from products that have been manufactured in the UK.

Our success in Australia continues to gather pace with the work of our distributor, Terra Firma Pits and Lids based in Victoria.

They have been working closely with Vic roads to come up with a quick and easy way of installing roadway covers under strict time constraints on road closures.

Failures of manhole covers in major arterial roads are a well-documented problem. With high speeds and high traffic volumes traditional manhole covers just don’t last the journey. In fact failures are so frequent that authorities in Europe put the average life span of a ductile cover in a typical road situation at only 5 years.
