Purpose Designed & Retrofit Covers

SSC's abilities to understand underground access positions enable SSC covers to meet all requirements that traditional materials and companies have historically been unable to satisfy properly. Covers designed with the THRUBEAM system can be purpose adapted to suit a variety of sizes and specification requirements. They can also be designed to fit existing frame arrangements, so that additional ground works can be negated. It is usually found that additional performance benefits are experienced which further enhances the solution.

A purposed designed cover starts with an in-depth consultation and agreement on specification/requirement.  This is followed by pre-production prototypes, trialing and testing to establish 'proof of concept'.

Venting

Venting holes can be incorporated in the surface face without any compromise to the structural strength.  The shallowness of these vent holes [1/2"(12mm) deep] ensures good below ground gas escape and minimises clogging with dirt.  Venting arrangements can be adapted to a client's particular need and holes can comply with American ADA requirements.

Twin key housing

On larger covers or where the client desires a two-person removal process, key housings at opposite ends of the cover can be incorporated.

Security lock

Bolting can be added at time of manufacturing or post deployment.  It automatically disengages on removal and re-engages on returning the cover.  The lifting aid cannot be removed without locking the cover.

Anti-tamper plug

For added security or to protect the key housing from gathering debris an anti-tamper plug can be fitted.  This is removable with the lifting handle.

Thermal grade

Covers can be manufactured with a special thermal grade resin and this maintains the structural integrity at elevated temperatures.  Because of the composite material and the deep cross section, a very good thermal barrier is created.   Over a steam heating installations the temperatures below the cover can be at 400º F, but the top surface will stay below the recommended temperatures in the ASTM criteria to prevent first-and second-degree burns.

Skirts/liners

All frames are designed to accommodate skirts/liners.  These can be fitted into the frames on-site.
